28 Jan 2022 Snowfall

We are getting ready for the second large snowfall event for us this month, hunkering down for 2-3 days. The wood pile on the back porch has been stocked up, and the snow shovels and ice melt are ready for use on the front porch. Silver is plugged in at the campground again, with a new holding tank handle, surge protector, and inspected bearings and brakes after we returned from the service dealer today. We had a good check of the hitch strength when I had to lock up the brakes while towing today as some road workers started to run across the road directly in front of us. Checked 4.0, though I had to lose some tire tread life. And while we do not go out and stock up on bread, milk, and eggs during snow storms, we did stock up on box wine and a bottle of bourbon. It’s all about priorities.

This month has been as busy as we expected it to be, and then some. After spending the first half of the month getting the house ready for sale, it officially went on the market the evening of Friday January 24th, and we immediately had eleven showings lined up, beginning on Saturday morning until Monday afternoon. By Monday evening we had accepted the offer from the first people that looked at the house on Saturday morning, for more than the asking price, which was a nice gift. It’s also nice that we no longer have to keep a sterile house for all of the strangers to wander through. Most of the time we spent lounging at the local library or coffee house, waiting for people to leave.

Now we are working through all of the required inspections to see what I have missed getting fixed over the last few months, and beginning to look ahead to a closing date on March 4th, and starting to pack-out and empty the house on February 28th. Fortunately, the buyers are interested in many of our furnishings and equipment, thus reducing our storage costs.

Our plan is to head south on March 5th and stay down in Georgia and Florida for the month, before heading back north to Annapolis in early April. The big anchor point as we plan our upcoming adventure is to be in Glacier National Park on May 30th, and from there slowly make our way up through Alberta and the Yukon, in to Alaska.

  1. Yup, all about priorities!! You’ve both done an ASTONISHING amount of WORK to get to this point – Enjoy your spotless house as you gaze at the mounting snowfall.

  2. Congratulations on the sale of your house, and congratulations on the successful load test of the 5th wheel hitch and your brakes. You and Carol did an incredible job getting the house prepared for sale, and it certainly paid off. Thanks for the update. Gene

  3. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s equally educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I found this in my hunt for something regarding this.
