North to Alaska!

Listen to the fabulous Johnny Horton’s “North to Alaska” as you peruse this post. You might also want to watch John Wayne in the movie about the Gold Rush days. You just can’t go wrong watching a movie with The Duke.

After futzing about up and down the East Coast for the last several weeks, it is time for us to get this show on the road! I’m sure many of you could not understand why we kept wandering about the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida when we said we were headed to Alaska. No, we are not directionally challenged, and we are departing from the Annapolis area tomorrow (April 8th) on the first leg of the journey.

Schedule-wise, we will slowly make our way through several states and expect to cross the border from Montana into Canada in early June, then cross into Alaska later in the month after travelling through Alberta and Yukon Territories. We’ll spend most of July shuttling around between Tok, Fairbanks, Denali, Talkeetna, Seward, Homer, and Wasilla/Palmer before starting our way back down to the lower 48. In many ways, we will travel north with Spring and then return to ride on the leading edge of Fall back to the south.

We do not have any specific plans yet for the trip back south, but we sort-of plan to drive through the length of British Columbia and re-enter the US in Washington State. Or maybe Idaho, if we feel like some fresh potatoes. In any event, I expect the trip back to be a little more free-flowing, with reservations made a few days before each stop instead of months before. I expect Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon will figure in the mix of stops.

Our Bags Are Packed!

Stay Tuned!
